About Me

My name is Cheryl Hardy Poole and I am the ESOL (English Speaking to Other Languages) Program teacher for Multilingual Learners (MLLs) at Kelly Edwards Elementary School. I am a 1993 graduate of Wagener-Salley High in Wagener, SC.  I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood in 1997 at USC Aiken (Aiken, SC) and in 2006 completed my Master's Degree in Divergent Learning at Columbia College (Columbia, SC). I have certification as a Read to Succeed Literacy Teacher and I am working towards completing certification in ESOL (Only one more class to go!).  I have been a teacher since 1998. From 1998 to 2021, I taught at Cyril B. Busbee Elementary (Wagener, SC) in 5-Kindergarten, First Grade, and Third Grade.  I transferred to the Barnwell County Consolidated School District 48 in the Fall of 2021 as a reading interventionist for K-2nd grade students but was asked to fill the position of ESOL teacher.  I have two children, Hank (22) and Emma (16), plus a fur baby (dog) named Tippy.  I have been a resident of Wagener since 1988.  Reading books and watching movies are hobbies of mine as well as painting and drawing.

My educational philosophy is "All children can learn, just at different times and in different ways."  My position as a teacher of multilingual learners is to instruct and be a support for students for whom English is an additional language.  I look forward to working with the parents and students of Kelly Edwards Elementary for the 2022-2023 school year.
