Welcome to Kelly Edwards Elementary School!
I am super excited to begin my second year at Kelly Edwards Elementary School. It has been my honor to begin my principal journey with such persevering students, an extremely dedicated staff, and a supportive school community. I feel very fortunate to be part of this school and to support the students, families, and community.
I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than nineteen years. I have worked with students ranging in age from Pre-Kindergarten through 6th grade in a variety of roles. I have been a classroom teacher, Reading Recovery teacher, and Literacy Coach. I also served as the Assistant Principal of Greendale Elementary School in Aiken. I am thrilled to continue my skills as an educational leader to Kelly Edwards and to work with you as a partner in education to ensure your scholar's success.
On a personal note, I am the proud mother of two sons, Malachi and Isaiah Smalls. Malachi is a recent graduate of South Aiken High School. He will be attending Georgia Southern University in the fall and participating in their marching band. Malachi is an avid musician who will major in music performance. Isaiah is a senior at South Aiken High School. He runs cross country and participates in track and field. He recently finished number eleven in the state in long jump. We currently attend Cedar Creek Church in Aiken.
I view education as a life-long process and expect that I will continue to learn much about the uniqueness of Kelly Edwards this year and in the years to come. I am excited to unite my experience and my openness to grow and learn with the school, staff, scholars, families, and community. The relationship between families, the community, and the school are vital to the success of our scholars, therefore I encourage you to become involved in every way possible. I look forward to meeting you soon!
Educationally yours,
Monique J. Smalls
Principal
